MICROSOFT

SENIOR USER EXPERIENCE (UX) DESIGN LEAD

May 2006 - September 2014

Bellevue, WA (Remote)  

 

Successfully balanced remote management with hands-on creative execution to deliver design results that directly impacted and influenced the global businesses of Bing and MSN. Proven track record of cross-disciplinary collaboration and innovation. Previous roles include Design Manager, Brand Evangelist, MSN Home Page Lead Designer, and MSN Channels Designer. 

  

  • Product Design - Managed the delta between the original design and the app in development, to ensure a quality end-to-end experience.


  • Business Development Design - Created custom designed pitch decks for a global suite of world-class content providers, including ESPN, CNN, Newsweek and more to help land new partners and grow the business.


  • Ideation and Innovation - Lead designer on a fast-paced team who's charter was to innovate the current MSN portal.


  • User Research and Design Incubation - Managed a global team of designers, researchers and developers based in London, Seattle and San Francisco.


  • Visual Language and Design Systems -  Created and cataloged network-wide design language for MSN.


  • Brand Evangelism - Brand ambassador to all international markets, building partnerships and fostering relationships and communicating design standards.


  • Portal Design  - Lead designer for the MSN US Homepage, and led the effort for a network-wide redesign.


  • Cross Network Design - Created and designed features (like slideshows) that were utilized across the MSN network.


  • Vertical Domain Design - Lead designer for several MSN vertical domains, including Tech & Gadgets and Health & Fitness.

    

RESULTS

MSN achieved greater user engagement and an increased audience during my tenure, and contributed the elevated design and user experience across the U.S. and over 45 international markets.

GRAVITY DESIGN

SENIOR GRAPHIC DESIGNER

Responsibilities include interface design, layout and development of client web sites and on-line promotions, logo design and brand development, printed invitations, brochures, advertisements and promotions. All simultaneous projects, followed from concept to creation. Also designed and developed company website.

Responsibilities include interface design, content and game development for the next generation of mobile devices. Additional responsibilities include designing the company identity and maintaining the brand equity through careful style-guide implementation.

LEAD GRAPHIC ARTIST

December 1999 - November 2001

Carlsbad, CA

Responsibilities include lead art direction, user interface design, and implementation of Triple Play Web Baseball, a 3D-multiplayer, on-line game. Additional responsibilities include designing the corporate web site and conceptualizing future projects, including the front-end design of Triple Play Baseball 2002 retail CD.   


RESULTS

Triple Play Web Baseball was one of the first online, multiplayer, subscription-based sports  games.

MICROSOFT - Chicago Sidewalk

Responsibilities include providing creative direction, concept development, hand-on design and implementation of a pioneering local on-line entertainment guide.

Recipient of the 1998 Society of Professional Journalism Award for On-line Design.

Responsibilities include providing art direction and creative execution, partnering with account executives, and remote developers to produce cutting edge interactive advertising and marketing.

Responsibilities include learning and observing like a sponge while taking on select design projects for high-profile clients. Created several pro-bono print pieces and played a key role in developing the interactive advertising division of FCB, which is now a global powerhouse.
